Edge of the World Snowboard Series Guidelines

Edge of the World Snowboard Series in sanctioned by the USASA. After entering three contests, you are a USASA member which enables you to go to the Nationals if you qualify and entitles you to all other USASA benefits.

Series Disciplines:

  • Slopestyle
  • Boardercross
Series Divisions:
  • Beginner/intermediate/ Expert -- Men's and Women's for Slopestyle
  • Men's Beginner and Open Class for Boardercross
  • Women's Open Class Boardercross
USASA Disciplines:
Slalom; Giant Slalom; Slopestyle; Halfpipe and Boardercross.

USASA divisions are by age groups in Men's and Women's:
"Ruggie" 7 and under; "Grommet" 8-9; "Menehune" 10-11; "Breaker" 12-13; "Youth" 14-15; "Junior" 16-17; "Jams" 18-22; "Senior" 23-29; "Master" 30-39; "Legend" 40-49; "Kahuna" 50-59; and "Methuselah" 60+.
You can only compete nationally in the disciplines you qualify for through our series.

Judging:

  • Each contest has four judges and each judge evaluates one of the four criteria.
  • The four criteria are: Difficulty, How Big, Style and Landings.
  • Each contestant gets two runs (Slopestyle) and each judge has 10 points max to give per run. (The most you can earn is 40 points per run, 80 points total).
  • Your score is based on the Judges' best assessment of your performance and all decisions are final.
Overall Standings Slopestyle:
  • Each week your total scores are added for overall standings.
  • Your lowest score will be dropped from the first five contests.
  • The final score at Hawksnest will not be dropped. (If more than one contest is canceled, no score will be dropped)
  • Once you have entered two contests, you cannot change divisions.
Boardercross Standings:
  • You are placed in the bracket based on your division and the order that you register.
  • Top two advance in each round.
  • Each round that you compete in earns you five points.
  • Winners earn an additional 5 pts for 1st place, 3 pts for 2nd place, 2 pts 3rd place, and 1 pt for 4th place.
  • Your overall standings are your total points from all contests.
Boardercross Rules:
  • The gate number that you start from is based on your registration order.
  • Four contestants start together.
  • All contestants must be still for the start.
  • When all four contestants are still, the starter says: "Go"
  • Competitors are allowed to take the line he wants, even if someone is in the way.
  • Competitors are not allowed to use their upper body to gain an advantage. (In other words, you can snowboard where you want to, but you cannot grab or push your opponent).
  • Each competitor has to go between all gates. If you miss a gate, you can hop back up.
  • Helmets and eye protection are required.
  • If you are not in the gate when your moto leaves, you are disqualified.
Slopestyle Rules:
  • Each contestant's turn is in order of registration.
  • We stay within the division until both runs are done.
  • If we have changed divisions, and you missed your turn, you are disqualified.
  • Inverts may or may not be allowed, based on the resort's policy and slope conditions.
  • Helmets required.
  • Hopping back up between jumps will not lower your score.
  • All four judging criteria are of equal value.
Dinner and Awards:
  • Awards are given for 1st through 5th place in all divisions of Slopestyle.
  • Awards are given 1st through 4th place in a ll Boardercross Divisions
  • Pizza and softdrink is included in your registration fee.
Raffle:
Tickets cost 25 cents each and you can buy as many as you want. All the raffle money is raffled as well as lots of good stuff, plus a '99 board.

The Edge of the World Snowboard Series is just for fun! Don't take it too seriously -- have a good time and enjoy riddin' with your bros! A lot of time, effort and money goes into this series, Edge of the World puts on this series to give back to the sport that we love. It's all about ridding.
