Did somebody say "ambulance"?
The second annual West Virginia University Law School 5k Ambulance Chase took place this past Sunday throughout the Suncrest Area of Morgantown, starting and finishing at Krepps Park. This was the first time this race was part of the Morgantown Area Grand Prix MAGP series and this helped to bring out over 220 runners and walkers.

The Ambulance Chase is run on the same course as the Back Bay Snowflake 5K which is the last race and series finals for the MAGP each year. This gives the MAGP runners a chance to compare their performances throughout the year.

The race began with WVU law students actually chasing an ambulance for several hundred feet. Moments later, the rest of the field took off with Morgantown's 46 year-old Ed Frohnapfel capturing first place in a time of 16:47. Finishing just a few strides behind Frohnapfel was Heather Bury, an ex-WVU track star who crossed in 17:02.

A nice Sunday afternoon run in Suncrest
Jesse Vernon, a University High student captured third in a time of 17:20 followed by another University High student, Stephen Hiser (18:00). Another former WVU runner, Johanna Fischer, took second for the women in a time of 18:55.

According to Frohnapfel the course was typically what all courses in Morgantown are like with a few hills mixed in with a few flat spots. Jesse Vernon, the second place male finisher and former iPlayOutside.com intern, was running the course for the first time competitively. However, the course is one he is very familiar with because he trains on it often.

After the race many refreshments were offered to all the participants while numerous prizes where given away. Many thanks go out to all the sponsors of the race, MAGP, and all the WVU law students who graciously gave up their Sunday Afternoon to help raise money for West Virginia Senior Legal Aid.
