This race continues to grow every year with more runners, more walkers and more survivors.

Much is being done to fight cancer and according to the American Cancer Society (ACS) between 1999 and 2006, incidence rates decreased by 2.0% per year. Early detection is one key to becoming a survivor.

A sea of pink toed the line between the Kanawha River and State Capitol the first Saturday in May to celebrate those who have survived breast cancer and to raise funds to help those who will fight this disease in the future.

The race is a festive and emotional event. Many families are there celebrating the life of a cancer survivor close to them while others are there as a memorial to those that lost the battle with this disease.

The wave of competitors made way towards the South Side Bridge turnaround at 9:00 AM.

Chuck Dent of Scott Depot got out fast and was this first of 750 to run under the pink arch with a time of 16:27:0. Michael Bee took time off the trails to post a 2nd place time of 17:05:4.

Defending her first place women's title, Marie Busienei posted a winning time of 17:51:6. Seven seconds faster than last year. Allson Cox chased Busienei finishing with a 2nd place female overall time of 18:42:2.

Eight year old Noah Castro clocked a 20:35:5. Imagine how fast he'll be in a few years.

Ten teams competed for a cure and Cross Fit defended their 2010 title with a 2:10:18.

Many thanks go out to all of the volunteers. Special thanks to Rebecca Newhouse, race director and Susan G. Komen for the Cure West Virginia Affiliate President, who works so hard to make this event a continued success.
