The Morgantown Area Grand Prix (MAGP) is open to runners only, but walkers can participate in listed races. The series helps local charitable and community service organizations and causes.


2011 Registration

  • Pre-Register Online at jimdunnrun.com, until July 13 for $30

    Online registration will close 48 hours prior to event.

  • Day of Event Registration - starts at 5:00 pm, $35.00 entry fee

  • Entry fee (runners and walkers) includes dinner provided by Oliverio's Ristorante. Extra meal tickets can be purchased on-line or the day of the event. Two coupons per registered participant can be redeemed for legal beverages provided by Mona Supply. Don't forget your ID!

2011 . . . COURSE CHANGE

Twilight 5 Miler

Due to construction on the north part of the Caperton Trail there is a flat and fast course along Decker's Creek. As in the past, runners will begin at the Wharf District parking garage, proceed down Clay Street, turn left at Mechanic Street, and travel up two blocks and turning left on Don Knotts Blvd to cross the highway bridge. Runners will turn left on Garrett Street, and left again at the Transit Authority Depot Station heading toward Sabraton on the Decker's Creek Rail Trail to the turning point across the foot bridge at Marilla Park.

The course loops around the, ball diamond and picnic pavilion and exits Marilla Park through the parking lot and over the low-water bridge at White Ave. Runners will turn left at Decker's Creek Blvd and return on Decker's Creek Rail Trail toward the finish line at the roundabout at the Transit Authority Depot Station between the Hazel Ruby McQuain Park and the Wharf Street Parking Garage. Mile markers will be positioned along the trail.

2 MILE WALK Course

For individuals or families, this walk is 2 miles along the North end of the Caperton Rail Trail.

To Benefit

Jim Dunn Memorial Scholarship will benefit a high school senior athlete continuing in track or cross country in college. This year's Scholarship were awarded to four (4) High School seniors.

Brandon Doughty - Jefferson High School

Brandon is currently ranked #1 in the State of West Virginia in the 800 meter run at 1:55.6; ranked #2 in the 1,600 meter run at 4:18.6; ranked #1 in the 3,200 meter run at 9:12.53. He is going to continue his running career at University of Oklahoma.

Cody Pelliccioni - Morgantown High School

Cody is currently ranked #4 in the State of West Virginia in the 3,200 meter run at 9:26.35, ranked # 7 in the 1,600 meter run at 4:26.89 and ranked # 9 in the 800 meter run at 2:01.86. Cody is going to continue his running career at North Carolina State.

Shannon Rutherford - Wayne High School

Shannon is currently ranked #1 in the State of West Virginia in the 400 meter run at 1:00.5, and ranked # 1 in the 800 meter run at 2:21.7. Shannon with continue her running career at West Virginia Wesleyan College.

Sarah McCauley - Philip Barbour High School

Sarah is currently ranked #1 in the State of West Virginia in the 1,600 meter run at 2:31.10, and rankedy # 6 in the 800 meter run at 2:31.1. Sarah with continue her running career at West Virginia University.

About Jim

Jim was well-known to the local Morgantown community as manager of Pizza Inn and Pargos, Special Olympics' coach and volunteer with many youth sports activities. A 1972 WVU graduate, Jim came to Morgantown from Rochester Pa on a scholarship and spent four years on WVU's storied men's track and field team under the leadership of Coach Stan Romanoski.

Jim was a sprinter on the WVU track team. Darlene, his wife wanted to do something special in memory of her husband after his sudden death in May of 2007. That is when the Jim Dunn Memorial Scholarship was founded.

The scholarship was established to support runners and the running sports throughout West Virginia. It will be given each year to a high school senior athlete, who has been accepted to run on a track or cross country team in college.

The scholarship, worth $500, may be used towards books, housing, tuition, etc.
